Fluorspar

As much as 11 million tonnes of low grade(20% of CaF2) is available in the hills of Ambadunger. Low grade ore is extracted in the open pit mine and is upgraded, through froth-flotation process, in a 500 tpd beneficiation plant to produce 96% CaF2 Acid Grade and 90% Caf2 Metallurgical Grade.

Acid Grade Fluorspar: 96% caF2 Used in manufacture of : Aluminium fluoride, synthetic Cryolite, Anhydrous HF, Fluorine chemicals

Metallurgical Grade Fluorspar: 85% caF2 Used as most powerful flux for melting and refining of steel in integrated Steel plants and Foundries..

General: Fluorspar Project is located 11 Kms. away from Taluka HQ Kawant of Baroda district in tribal area and is at an altitude of 330 mtrs from sea level. The fluorspar mine is located at 600 mtrs. Altitude from sea level.

Mines:Fluorspar is chemically CaF2. The fluorspar deposit of Ambadungar was discovered in 1935 during the construction of forest road. GSI started field work in 1960 – 61 and established an 11.6 mT estimated reserves for the area. It is hydro-thermal deposit. GMDC is holding two mining leases for fluorspar mine ; 31.2 ha and 32 ha at Village Ambadungar of Taluka Kawant. GMDC started mining operation in this area in 1964 and being worked by open cast method.

Uses : Fluorspar is mainly used in production of hydro-fluoric acid and in refrigerant gases. In addition, it is widely used in metallurgical industries as flux.

Beneficiation Plant : GMDC is having 500 tpd capacity Beneficiation Plant located at Village : Kadipani to upgrade the low grade fluorspar ore from 23% - 25% CaF2 to 90 – 95% CaF2 by flotation method.
